Chimney Sweep Useful Tip:

Installing a Chimney Flue
Before you go out to buy a chimney flue it is advisable that you go through a liner sizing chart to know the correct size of flue that would best fit your chimney. You have an option of not using a professional to install your chimney flue but if you opt to doing it yourself ensure the work is inspected by a representative from the local council before you start using it.

Before starting the installation of a flue it is best that you thoroughly clean your chimney to clear off any dirt within the chimney. If you start the installation without cleaning the chimney the debris and dirt may fall down the chimney during installation causing a mess in the house. Before installing the flue it is also recommended that you seek professional advice on the type of flue to install depending on the type of fuel you expect to use on your fire place.

When installing the chimney flue it is advisable to use scaffolding when going up the roof for safety. Once up the roof find the arrows on the flue; they need to be pointing to the sky as they show the direction of smoke. Once you have they arrow pointing up, feed the flue down the chimney and have a helper fit it on the cone in the fireplace and bingo; your chimney is ready for use. All you need to do is to follow some simple guidelines for getting this job done easily and quickly.

Clean Your Chimney
First step to install chimney flue is making this clean. Cleaning off old soot, insect any activity or debris from inside chimney will allow you take right look inside flue and make sure it isn't very badly damaged. Suppose you see any missing brickwork, and serious damage on inside of chimney, you must abandon installing flue, or get the contractor to come & repair chimney before this is used.

Installing Flue
Then you will need to create flue out of metal sheets. Then lay out sheets, and roll it so that they're smaller than chimney space. Place some screws along edge of sheet, and screw this in very tightly. While you've done this, attach string to top surface of flue, and send string up on chimney. Take string from top of a cap or haul up flue (you might need help of friend with that). Nail flue at a top of chimney.

Install Liner
When it is done, you will need to put the flue liner on inside of chimney flue. It can help to keep chimney clean, as well as prevent any heat escaping, whereas keeping the gasses going. You may need to lower the liner down on flue, and seal it along top of chimney using band that is included in a kit. At a bottom of flue, tug liner down, and connect this to chimney buffer, so it is opened when fire is in the use.

Finishing
Before finishing this project you will need to ensure that liner and flue aren't touching any of the area where flames of fire may reach. Take proper care when installing flue that you do not leave many gaps in flue that can allow the gas to escape, though this must get prevented by liner.
