Chimney Sweep Useful Tip:

The importance of fire clay for a fireplace
If you have decided to upgrade the fire pit or fire place, you may have heard about the fireclay which is fire resistant. Since these places need to use high temperature, it is always good to use the materials that you are sure can withstand the heat. The fire clay can also be made into refractory brick or fire brick. Such blocks are used into the fireplaces, fireboxes, kilns and furnaces. The fire clay is made in the way that it can withstand high temperature at the same time; it is not heat conductive which improves energy efficiency.

The fireclay has to be fired into the kiln in order to make firebrick. The kiln is vitrified and for the special purpose it is glazed. The fire clay can be made in standard size or the user can have his own custom made. In order to achieve the fire resistant mortal, the fire clay has also to be added in order to act as an additive. The fireclay is special and it is used in the making of the ceramics. When silica and alumina are added into the fire clay, it makes the product extremely resistant. Normally, all the fire bricks should always be made by the use of the fire clay.

The firebricks made in the fire clay can be found in different sizes and styles. The fire bricks uses aluminum oxide content and it can be higher than 50 -80 percent depending on the level of silica that have been used.

The firebricks that are used to line the furnace of steel making factory uses high temperatures which is up to 1648 degree Celsius and this can melt other ceramics. Other materials are used with the firebricks for the lower temperature applications. These include the magnesium oxide which is normally used to line up the furnace. The Silica bricks is the most common type of the bricks which used for the incinerators and lining of the furnaces. The inner part is normally used as a sacrificial part. The firebricks that have high level of alumina content may be used to lengthen duration between the linings. Sometime the cracks may be seen on the sacrificial inner lining when it is put into the operation. The silicon carbide that has a high level of abrasive strength is normally used in the hearths, cremators and incinerators. The red clay brick is common for the wood fired ovens and chimneys.

All the firebricks have to be made in the fire clay always to ensure that they are fire resistant. The fire clay is a type of normal mud and it has a high level of alumina content. It has normally white and light color. Sometime it can be brownish, pinkish and yellowish. It is normally sold in a powdered form put into the bags but even in the powdered form, it continues to be heavy. If you cannot buy the fire clay, you can also find it in the nature. You only have to check the areas which a mud that have a lighter color especially where soil erosion and excavation work took place.
