This part of the chimney remains at a good height while exposed to the outer environment and harsh weather conditions. With time a chimney crown can come across different issues. It can deteriorate or can come across several cracks. Having a chimney crown that has received several hairline cracks needs to be replaced or resurfaced instantly. If you want to complete this work perfectly, then hire a professional chimney sweep located close to you. This type of work often starts while removing the damaged chimney crown. During this work a drop cloth can be used to cover the roof area and to protect it from damages. Once the old crown is removed, a proper mixture of the fresh masonry cement and pea gravel is prepared.

This mixture is applied with the new crown when this is placed at the wheelbarrow. Then the cement is added to place the crown properly at the exact location. While placing the crown proper fitment and alignment like aspects need to be considered. A crown should be fixed in a proper line to the chimney so that it will not look to be a bent one further. An improperly placed crown can perform in a negligible manner and can hamper overall performance of the chimney. The mortar cap, and chimney crown, that is constructed improperly, or one, which has become deteriorated with time, might be cause of the water leaking in the attic through cracks and broken mortar in crown. Whenever it happens, it's better to replace crown than trying to repair this. Suppose the plans include replacement of the chimney crown, and suppose you've not replaced one, then you may likely need the information on the tools and materials needed, best techniques to use.
