Chimney Sweep Useful Tip:

The cleaning method to use for your chimney depends on the stage of the creosote
There is always a type of creosote which is produced whenever the fire is burning. They are soot, tar and creosote. These are the three types of the byproducts that results from burning of the woods and they are known as the creosote when they mix together. Each type of the creosote has its special way to be cleaned and they do not use the same method. Regardless of the state of your chimney, it is always good if you can have it removed since it can start the chimney fire since it is highly flammable.

The creosote at the stage one is the easiest way to be removed and it contains a high level of soot. It does not need too much tools to be removed since the only thing you need is to have a chimney brush. The creosote at stage one is when the wood is able to combust well and the flue is warm from the heat of the fire. The wood will burn well since there is enough air or because the wood is seasoned. This means that there is low moisture.

The stage two or second degree creosote is hard to be removed compared to the type that has only soot. This is a type of the creosote buildup leading to the glistening black flakes. The flakes are normally hard to be removed and they contain the tar that has been hardened. This type of the creosote cannot be brushed away easily as the stage one creosote. The second degree creosote is build up because of not enough air that that comes in the fireplace and it is common with wood and fireplaces with the glass door. The best way to clean the creosote on the stage two is to use the rotary loop. The loop is stainless steel equipment and it has a cable that it is attached on the hub and it has metal rods which turn into a powerful drill.

If you want to remove the hard glaze creosote, you need to break it down chemically. You can use anti-creo-soot liquid spray or the powder. The ACS in the liquid form is for the chimney creosote removal spray. It can be applied at once into the fire or used pre-treated wood before you start to burn them. The vapor goes up in the flue, it gets attached to the glazed creosote and it is chemically modified it afterwards. It turns in the ashes which are not harmful and it may be cleaned easily by the use of the chimney sweep brush. The products used have the chemical catalyst that will break down the creosote and they are peeled away after sometime. The powder has to be used at least 2 weeks before the cleaning so that the soot can break away. You can also use a liquid spray whenever you light a fire so that you can reduce the creosote in the chimney. The rotary head can be used but in most cases it can cause the damage so it is not always the first choice.
