Chimney Sweep Useful Tip:

Reasons why a wood burning stove may smoke
There are many reasons why the wood stove may be smoking in the house and this is the main concern of many people. The updraft or pull in the flue is based on the difference that exists between the temperature that exists inside the chimney together with other factors like the flue or the height or the resistance of the airflow inside the stove. The hot gasses found in the flue has less weight compare to the equivalent column found in the cold air outside of the chimney. The pressure that it is found inside the warm flue has less weight compared to the pressure found outside. When there is a small difference within the pressure, it is going to create a draft.

Chimney obstruction found in the fireplace or the wood stove may lead to the smokes. The smoke path can be blocked because of different things. You have to make sure that you have opened the damper while the fire is burning. When the chimney is used on regular basis, it can be narrowed or blocked by the creosote or the soot. To avoid smoking caused by this problem, it is important to clean the chimney system completely. Another reason of the blockage is the deterioration of the mortal or more components that are used in the building of the chimney and sometime it can flake off or it can accumulate the smoke in the passageway.

When the smoke takes place only when you light up the fire, it means that the flue and the chimney are cold. The chimney that it is found outside of the envelope of a house has cold block of the air and it is pushed out of a chimney before the smoke may travel up in the chimney. The problem should be resolved when the chimney is pre-heat or by rolling up the piece of the newspaper and lighting it in the damper place or by using hot air from the hairdryer up into chimney in order to push the cold air out of the place. The cold air flow may be reversed so that the flow of the hot air can head up in the chimney while starting the fire.

When smoking issue takes place constantly, there are different things which may be affecting a draft. The wood type that it is being burned may create the smokes inside of fireplace. Normally the burning of green or unseasoned wood may lead to the smoky fire. The chimney or fireplace construction or their location can lead to location of a system within the house. This can create different situation. When the fireplace opening and the flue size is not in the same proportion, the smoke can be pulled out faster. When the damper is not found the right place, the smoke can rollout of front fireplace.

The chimney height in the relationship to a house or other structure around a house may be the major impact at the draft.
